I think
I am far too permissive with myself with contention. The Lord’s language here is unambiguous – we
are commanded to not engage in contention. The Lord does not say, do not be contentious
if you are wrong. He doesn’t say, don’t
be contentious unless the other person is contentious. He doesn’t say, don’t be contentious unless
not being contentious wouldn’t work effectively. He doesn’t even say, don’t be contentious
except when the other person isn’t dealing in good faith. He is clear – contention (all contention) is
of the Devil.
