Once
again, we see how David is a Christ-figure. Absalom rejected David, and sought to take
away his kingdom. David’s reign was put
to flight, and he was in exile. And yet,
Absalom’s death (while justified) was heartrending to David and he mourned over
what could have been.
Christ
is the rightful king of this world, but each of us in our daily actions reject
Him and seek to take away His Kingdom and His Divine right of rulership. And so, rather than destroy us, Christ reigns
in exile. The day will come when each of
us will willingly submit to Christ again, or we will be destroyed (as was
Absalom). When that time comes, Christ
will not be rejoicing in the conquering of His enemies, but rather will be
mourning the loss of His friends who rejected Him.
