We like
to think that we will win our battles if we take the side of the Lord. The fact is, we are correct in that approach
(but perhaps not in a temporal sense). Jeremiah
was told by the Lord that his enemies would fight against him but would not
prevail. In the long run, that was
true. But in the short run Jeremiah
spent a long period of time in the muck of an oubliette (about one of the worst
fates I could imagine).
We will
win if we side with the Lord, but it is far more common that our test demands
that we lose in the short term even if (especially if?) we are doing our best
to follow the Lord.
