I see a powerful lesson here in what Alma did for his son (and the sons of Mosiah). Surely he had taught his children before this point the Gospel. When they did not follow it, he did the only thing that he could do – he prayed for them to come to a knowledge of the truth. When we are in conflict with those we love, and we believe them to be wrong, it is often a temptation to seek out to prove them wrong or win an argument or any number of other things. Sometimes, we might even try to compel our loved ones to follow what we think (sometimes correctly) they should do. But the correct thing to do is to follow Alma’s example – we should pray to the Father that they will come to a knowledge of the truth, and we should then let Him work on His children as He sees fit.
