A fear
that I have always had was whether I could be trusted to hear the words of a
prophet in ancient days. It is easier to
be obedient now, because there is no doubt that President Monson is the
Prophet. But in those days, the people
were confronted with someone who claimed Divine appointment and they were
obligated to know for themselves whether they had that appointment.
Then
again, we are in a comparable situation in one way – while they had to identify
whether a prophet was legitimate we are obligated to determine which religion
is legitimate (and determining that is likely a very similar challenge).
