Forgiveness
is such a powerful (and difficult) doctrine.
It is so easy for us to seek out ‘justice,’ only to realize too late
that justice condemns each and every one of us.
No, what we really want isn’t justice but rather justice for others and
mercy for us. This arbitrary and
divergent standard is nothing more than selfishness. We love neither justice nor mercy in this
case – we only want what benefits us, nothing more.
