While
the Book of Mormon is best verified through the confirmation of the Holy
Spirit, there is more than enough evidence to support its veracity – especially
the internal consistency that persists throughout the book. For example, we read in this chapter about
brass breastplates and rusted swords among the Jaredites. This is both consistent with the record we
have in Ether, and is also consistent to the rate at which the oxidation
of various materials would occur (brass breastplates would be structurally
sound, covered in patina, while iron and ‘steel’ swords would be damaged by
rust).
