The
prophecy of Joseph in this chapter is one of the great evidences of the Book
of Mormon (at least, the intellectual ones). After all, Joseph at the time he wrote this
prophecy was doing so in Egypt
– and, likely, writing in ancient Egyptian. These records, if contained on the Brass
Plates, likely remained in Egyptian. Thus
it was only natural (and we have found other historical evidences of this) that
the records on the Brass Plates in general were written in Egyptian.
So many
things are illuminated by this fact (the Brass Plates at least began in
Egyptian) and the fact that it was primarily a record of the northern tribes. Taking those two facts, we would expect
certain resulting evidences to exist in the Book of Mormon – and, as
best as I can see, they are all there.
