Jeremiah 30

(January 28, 2015)
There have been times when I have pleaded with the Lord to save me, and in each case He has been there for me.  But, as with the Jews at Jerusalem, the Lord will save us but will not leave us unpunished.  I have experienced a great deal of heartache as I have struggled to accept the salvation that the Savior has to offer me – it has been such a blessing that the Lord has paid so much of the price, but He though He can pay all He requires that we accept such punishment as will turn us to Him and remind us of the consequences of sin.

The other thought that I had was on the wonderful promise that is contained in the Lord’s words that we shall be His people and He will be our God.  These words were spoken during a time when the judgments of God were about to be poured out on the covenant people, and it would have been easy for them to turn away from Him.  But He used this time to remind them that, even though they were being chastened, He had not cast them off and they could return to Him if they chose.  So it is with each of us.  Even in our times of greatest adversity, and even when that adversity is fully or partially the consequence of our own sin, the Lord is forever there to remind us that He would still have us to be His people, and would still have us take Him as our God.
