We are
frequently reminded of the scriptural admonition that to obey is better than to
sacrifice. But do we really understand
what that means? Sacrifice is a process
of trying to draw closer to the Lord, but (like repentance generally) sacrifice
only draws us closer to the Lord by removing obstacles that stand between us
and Him. Obedience is the only mechanism
by which we actually move closer to Him – sacrifice is just the giving up of
things that would otherwise stand in the way of our obedience.
