Exodus 30

(March 12, 2014)
The people of Israel clearly had very little understanding of the importance of olive oil as the anointing oil.  And they must have found it inconvenient (considering that they were wanderers in the desert) to part with that amount of oil.  But there was an important reason why they were using olive oil, even though they would likely not know it in their lifetimes.  They were called to use olive oil for the benefit of those who would come later – who could look back and see the significance of the olive oil as the anointing oil.

I wonder how many things like that we have in our modern Church, and how frequently that we put our own intelligence and reasoning in between the Lord and His work for similar reasons?  I wonder if the day will come when we will look back and see how the commandments we didn’t follow resulted in those who came later not learning important Gospel lessons that they could and should have learned through our obedience?
