Mosiah 11

(August 30, 2014)
There is a difficult question that is raised here but is not really addressed – what is our obligation when the laws of the land are being used to support wickedness?  What would our obligations be as a farmer in the Land of Nephi when Noah claimed a fifth part of our possessions, knowing that he would use it to his own destruction?  What is our obligation when we are compelled to pay taxes now which we absolutely know will be used to bring about not only the destruction of those who claim the money but also the destruction of those who are given that money?

It is a difficult question for me to answer.  On the one hand, I know that agency is paramount and at some point we must be willing to protect those we have stewardship over and leave those who fight against the Lord to the destruction that they seek.  On the other hand, however, it is difficult to look out at the world with anything other than pity for those who are participating in the legal, government-sponsored plunder that compromises their own integrity.
