Such a
simple phrase – “they have gone contrary to the nature of God; therefore, they
are in a state contrary to the nature of happiness” – but one so profound and
so true. No matter what is happening in
our external environment, the one measure of our happiness is living in tune
with the Lord.
Living
out of tune with the Lord, we may find things that can dull our pain and blind
our hearts. This, especially when paired
with excitement, may be mistaken for happiness.
But ultimately it is not – it is a return to the state of nature and
accepting the bonds of iniquity.
