James 2-3

(August 25, 2015)
I was struck as I read through the examples raised by James of how similar they were to the examples raised by Paul (Abraham, Rahab, etc.).  It seemed as though what I was reading was almost like a conversation between Paul and James about the tension between faith and works.

This shouldn’t surprise anyone – Apostles are individuals and each has their own understanding of the Gospel based in part upon reason and in part upon revelation.  We know, for example, that Paul spoke of himself and not of the Lord in the scriptures at least once (as the Lord teaches in Doctrine and Covenants 74).
